Laquon Treadwell has not been able to produce on the field as a first round pick is expected to. During a radio interview, Mike Zimmer was asked about the third year WR and gave a very interesting answer

.

Like most NFL head coaches and general managers this time of year, Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman are in Indianapolis for the NFL combine, trying to decide which players the Minnesota Vikings are going to take in this year’s draft.

When you have that many NFL decision-makers in the same place at one time, the media is sure to follow. Mike Zimmer sat down with KFAN’s Paul Allen and gave one of his most revealing and honest interviews in quite some time.

He addressed the hangover of the Minneapolis Miracle in the week of practice leading up to the game, talked about the team’s current quarterback situation and gave a little insight into how the Viking’s front office and he work together during the offseason.

The most curious comments he made during the interview were regarding the underwhelming performance of former first round pick, Laquon Treadwell. When asked if the new offensive coordinator could get more consistency out of the third year player than the previous regimes Zimmer responded,
“I would hate to put that on the previous coaches, Laquon’s had every opportunity there has been, quite honestly, at the end of the day. It’s up to him now.”

Zimmer seems to have a good relationship with Pat Shurmur, so avoiding the public blame game with a departed coach shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to Viking fans. It’s also fair to assume that a coach who helped Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs develop, should not be blamed for the lack of production from Treadwell.

Zimmer continued, “Laquon is his own worst enemy. We’re in the middle of two a days and he’ll go up there at 11 o’clock at night and run stadium steps. He thinks he’s getting better but he’s not helping himself.”

Zimmer sounds like he has seen everything he needs to see from Treadwell and the head coach expecting more of the same from him in 2018 means his time in purple may be rapidly running out.
